These Buddy the Elf Christmas desserts are the result of having the quote “Bye Buddy! Hope you find your dad!” stuck in my head for the entire month of December.
If you’ve never seen the movie Elf then you’ll probably think this entire post is bizarre and random.
If you have seen the movie Elf then you’ll understand why this entire post is bizarre and random.
Either way, I hope you enjoy my interpretation of Elf as shown through sugar, cookies, and buttercream frosting.
First up on the list of Buddy the Elf Christmas desserts is this narwhal cake. The narwhal is famous for his one line in the movie and I thought he would be a fun take on the unicorn cake trend that can be found all over the internet. His horn is made of fondant sprayed with edible gold spray, his eyes are painted on with edible gold paint, and the rest of him is decorated with Swiss meringue buttercream.
Sadly, I don’t have a recipe for the cake because it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, but here is the link to an amazing recipe for Swiss meringue buttercream. If you’ve never made Swiss meringue buttercream, you have to give it a try. It’s fluffy and light without being too sugary and it’s also the perfect consistency for piping swirls and dots. All you need to create this look is different shades of buttercream and piping tips.
Next up is sugar cookies made from my favorite sugar cookie recipe on the Bake at 350 blog. I always use this recipe for cookies because it’s super simple, delicious, and doesn’t require any chilling. While you’re over there you should also check out my favorite recipe for royal icing.
My favorite scene from Elf is when Buddy excitedly congratulates a diner for having the “World’s Best Cup of Coffee”. I truly don’t think there’s anything more funny than his enthusiasm and the dry reaction he receives from everyone in the diner. The other cookie that looks like a cookie meant for practice decorating is supposed to be Buddy’s breakfast of spaghetti, maple syrup, and candy. Basically it’s a hot mess of noodles, candy, and sprinkles, so even if it’s not my finest decorating work, I think it’s pretty accurate.
Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins AKA Rice Krispie Treats
Last on the list of Buddy the Elf desserts is cotton headed ninny muggins made from rice krispies and cotton candy. These are definitely the most bizarre treats that I came up with, but they’re also my personal favorite. You can use your favorite rice krispies recipe and shape them into a regular sized donut or mini donut pan. Then just top them off with sprinkles and some cotton candy.
Buddy the Elf calls himself a cotton headed ninny muggins when he is unable to finish as many toys as the other elves. I tried a google search to figure out what this would look like in real life, but with no results, I was left to my own imagination. I might be a little drunk from hot chocolate, but I think they’re super cute and fit right into the whimsical world of Elf. If you figured out what these were supposed to be before I told you, then I’m impressed and I feel much better about my weird imagination.
If you thought these Buddy the Elf desserts were absolutely ridiculous, thanks for bearing with me and reading this entire post. I hope you at least found some amusement and inspiration for your holiday baking!
